Breastfeeding – speculation and prejudice

Very often we hear a number of prejudices that negatively affect expectant mothers, forcing them to refuse breastfeeding. Often there is a statement that breastfeeding spoils the shape of the chest, that this is extremely difficult, and that as a result of this method of feeding, mom can happen to all kinds of breast problems. Let’s look at what of these fears is justified by facts, and what is stupid speculations.

Breastfeeding spoils the shape of the chest. During breastfeeding, the shape of the chest changes. She becomes more magnificent and elastic. With proper care of the breast, after the end of the lactation period, the chest acquires its original shape or slightly increases, compared with the period before the onset of pregnancy.

Breastfeeding does not affect the figure poorly. This superstition arose on the soil that pregnant and nursing mothers were forced to eat for two. During pregnancy, the mother gains excess weight, but after childbirth he goes away, and with proper nutrition during the period of feeding the baby, the figure fully returns to the primary state. And not only does not deteriorate, but even vice versa, acquires beautiful feminine forms.

For breastfeeding, you need to prepare for a long time. This is not true. Only in exceptional cases, when there are good physiological grounds, the breast preparation for feeding occurs. Ordinary healthy women do not need to do anything first. The body itself will make everything necessary for this.

With drawn or flat nipples, breastfeeding is impossible. This is completely fiction. During feeding, not a nipple is involved, but an areola (near -car circle). It is on its pressure that the process of expressing milk takes place.

You can not feed the baby (more than 5 minutes) for a long time otherwise will appear breast cracks. For normal full -fledged feeding, the baby can be in the chest from 5 to 20 minutes. Cracks appear from improper breast care, and not from the feeding process. Also, cracks and abrasions can appear from the wrong application to the chest. To avoid this, the midwives teach women in feeding in the maternity hospital.

If there is no milk, then the baby should be fed up. To find out if there is enough milk for normal feeding, you need to weigh the baby after each feeding. It happens that milk flows too well and the child eats up in 3-5 minutes, and the mother thinks that the baby is hungry and tries to feed him. When feeding, the child begins to eat less breast milk as a result, refuses breastfeeding.

Feeding on demand. If mom needs to lead an active lifestyle, it is better to accustom the child to the feeding schedule, but if it is more convenient for mom to feed on demand, then there are no contraindications to do this.
